LUCTONIANS head coach Ryan Watkins was delighted for his players after they finally claimed a win.

The Kingsland outfit beat Chester 20-5 which ended a run of 11 straight defeats,

"They have put in a lot work recently, so it's a bit of relief that it's finally come because we have come close a lot of times," said Watkins.

"But the effort we put in today shows what it takes to win a game of rugby."

Lucs dominated throughout, but Watkins said his players could only relax once the final whistle went.

"Because of the position we were in, we were never going to relax unless we put 50 or more points on the board," he said.

"At 20 points, it was comfortable but we didn't want to let off because we've let in teams before.

"But we've learnt our lesson and it won't be happening again this year."

Lucs now go to fourth-from-bottom Blaydon and Watkins says it's important his team produce another good performance.

"The confidence in the team should be back," said Watkins.

"So we should go up there ready to win, but we can't rest for a moment, we cannot afford to."

Lucs have the luxury of calling on a number of players, which Watkins is thankful of.

"We have got a big squad across the club and I don't think many other clubs will have the numbers that we do in training," he said.

"It's something we are proud of and we've got to start making it pay."
