ROSS-ON-WYE saw off fellow Herefordshire side Greyhound 69-14 in the first round of the North Midlands Vase.

The Greytree side are the holders and they dominated from the start.

Winger Marcus Bemand impressed with his consistent breaks, while newcomer Dale Brooke was alert throughout and scored a debut try.

Further tries came from Chris Price, Gavin Oates, Craig Smith, Josh Element, Thai Hayward, Matt King and Aaron Ryder, while Greyhound's scores came from Dewi Williams and Liam Webdale, with Kevin Murphy and Chris Fisher adding the conversions.

This weekend, Ross open their Gloucester 2 account with a trip to Cothsm Park, while Grehound are home to Linley in Midlands 5 West North.

Bromyard meanwhile bowed out of the North Midlands Shield despite a battling performance against higher graded Evesham.

The visitors started strongly with four quick tries only for Bromyard to get into the game with a penalty try conceded at a scrum just before half time.

Second half tries from Bobby Ralph and John Pudge and a Toby Rivers penalty, but they weren't enough to match a well drilled Evesham outfit.

Ledbury were also eliminated after losing 35-14 to Malvern.

Both Bromyard and Ledbury start their Midlands 3 West (South) campaigns this Saturday.

Bromyard host Upton-on-Severn, while Ledbury are home to Rugby St Andrews.
