THE boot of Louis Silver saw Luctonians beat Sheffield 32-31 in a dramatic opening National League 2 North match.

Silver kicked over a penalty as Lucs edged the sea-saw battle.

Lawrence Breese marked his league debut by scoring a try to put Luctonians in control, with Silver converting.

But Sheffield hit back with two tries to take a 19-7 lead.

Luctonians were then awarded a penalty try and they levelled the game when Piers Morell touched down.

However, it was the home side who went into the break in the ascendency thanks to another try.

Back came Lucs with a Silver penalty before they went ahead for the first time.

Will Hodnett scored a try, with Silver converting.

Again, the home side hit back with a converted try putting them back in front.

Silver then slotted over a penalty before Sheffield were awarded one of their own.

However, the penalty was missed and Lucs came home with the five points.

Elsewhere, Hereford drew 25-25 with Stoke-on-Trent in Midlands 1 West.

In the North Midlands Shield, Ledbury lost 35-14 to Malvern.
