LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson is to leave the club at the end of the season.

Davidson has been instrumental in ensuring the Kingsland-base side have maintained National League 2 North status for seven seasons, with Luctonians currently placed in 11th position.

A former Colts player, Davidson returned to Luctonians from Birmingham Solihull (then Pertemps Bees) in 2010, initially as a player and director of rugby as the club gained promotion to the fourth tier of English rugby for the first time.

Davidson captained the side in the 2012/13 season before a recurring shoulder injury forced him to hang up his boots.

He continued at the club in the capacity of director of rugby, leading them to an excellent sixth-placed finish last season.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank him on behalf of all Luctonians for his dedication and commitment in helping our first team maintain National Two status once again, for the seventh time this season," said Luctonians chairman Simon Whiteman.

Meanwhile, Ryan Watkins will step up as head coach next season.

"Ryan has been involved at the club now for the past three seasons as backs coach and he will take on this new role in conjunction with continuing his existing coaching role at Worcester Warriors in their AASE programme," added Whiteman.

In other moves, Anika Brown, who has been involved with the club for a number of years, will be joining the full-time team as club secretary, while Simon Davies will be forming a new committee to help co-ordinate and look after the wellbeing of the club's volunteers.
