BROMYARD RFC will seal promotion from Midlands 4 West (South) this weekend if they beat Redditch.

The county side are seven points clear of Stoke Old Boys with just two games remaining.

Anything other than a win could open the door for Stoke, who need to beat leaders Alcester.

Bromyard's final game of the season is home to Stoke Old Boys on April 22.

"We've got a relatively young squad, with the majority of the players coming up from the junior section," said Bromyard chairman Farmer Parker.

"It's been a big help moving to the southern section because there's less travelling.

"Before, we were going to places like Uttoxeter, Market Drayton and Rugeley, whereas now there are more local fixtures.

"The standard is about the same, but we've got a good set of backs who have scored a lot of points."

Brothers Greg and George Leighton treated the home crowd to a feast of rugby last Saturday, with George scoring four tries in Bromyard's 71-17 trouncing of Pershore.

Greg also bagged a brace before half-time, with James Mitchell and captain Sam Sayce adding further scores.

With the winning bonus point secured by half time, the second half saw Bromyard play with a lot of freedom.

Coach Tom Hulbard and Will Teece got in on the act by scoring tries, with Mitchell adding his second try of the afternoon.

Further tries from George Leighton added gloss to the scoreline, with Toby Rivers kicking over the conversions.

Meanwhile, Ledbury's promotion push has derailed and they are now relying on other results going their way if they want to go up from Midlands 3 West (South).

The Ross Road side are five points behind second-placed Evesham after losing 20-15 at home to Old Leamingtonians.

"It is still mathematically possible that we can go up, but realistically I think we call it as a write-off," conceded Ledbury captain Rob Anscomb.

"This was the season we thought we could do it and were probably favourites.

"We've got great supporters, so it's a shame that we can't give something back to them and the club.

"Maybe we put too much pressure on ourselves, but we won't dwell on it.

"We always manage to put a good side out and we will look to enjoy the last two games."

Elsewhere, Ross-on-Wye are still in with a shout of getting promoted from Gloucester 2 after beating Bishopston 32-12, while Greyhound have a winner-takes-all encounter against Market Drayton this Saturday.

Both sides are locked on 40 points at the top of Midlands 5 West (North), with Greyhound leading the way on points difference.

Greyhound could still go up even if they lose, as long as Aldridge do not claim a winning bonus point victory against Tenbury.
