DIRECTOR of rugby Bob Stewart believes Hereford Rugby Club will still have work to do to ensure their Midlands 1 West status even if they win their next two games.

The Wyesiders host Worcester in a vitally important game this Saturday before having another home game the following week against bottom club Kenilworth.

Hereford are eight points above the bottom two places, but Stewart believes there will still be a few twists to come as the season reaches its climax.

“I’ve never known a league like it where anyone can beat anyone,” said Stewart.

“We want to get wins against Worcester and Kenilworth and will then assess where we are.

“This year has been a massive learning curve for us, but we’ve got a plan of what we want to do.

“On Saturday, we will aim to be more solid in defence, but won’t put too much pressure on the lads.

“We just want them to express themselves.”

Hereford go into the game on the back of a humbling 41-12 loss against second-placed Bournville.

The Wyesiders had to make seven changes for the game and, despite being in the game for 60 minutes, a three-try burst in a 20 minute spell ultimately proved costly. “We had a young side out there, they played very well at times, but were up against a very good Bournville side,” said Hereford head coach Luke Fisher.

“But it was good to see us have a really good crack at them.”

Bournville opened up an 8-0 lead within the first five minutes before adding two more penalties.

Richard Preece went over for Hereford in the 25th minute, but further points by the away side saw them go into the break 19-5 up. Despite seeing a player sent off shortly into the second half, Bournville raced away with the game, with Hereford only going over once thanks to Dean Powell.

Luctonians return to action this Saturday with a trip to strugglers Preston Grasshoppers.

Lucs are 13th in National League 2 North, six points above the relegation zone.

But they face a Preston side who had an excellent win against second-placed Leicester Lions last weekend. Elsewhere, Ledbury host Woodrush, Bromyard go to Harbury, Greyhound, who bowed out of the North Midlands Vase at the hands of Birmingham Civil Service last week, travel to Chaddesley Corbett and Ross are away at Minchinhampton.
