BOB Stewart is set to become director of rugby at Hereford Rugby Club.

Stewart has been head coach at Wyeside, but will oversee the whole playing staff.

Luke Fisher will continue being first XV player-coach, while Kieram Hallam will be his assistant.

“The coaching changes are purely recognising the evolutionary process which all organisations go through,” added Hereford press officer Rob Davies.

“The job which Bob continues to do is pretty much what he has been doing, but with an emphasis on the whole senior playing staff.

“The fine detail of his job description has yet to be finalised and there will be some minor changes in detailed responsibility.

“Luke Fisher has very much been involved with coaching the first team and we are recognising this in his job title.

“As with Bob the fine detail of Luke’s job description has still to be finalised, but will very much concentrate on giving him further responsibilities for the first team.

“He will continue to report to Bob who in turn reports to the general committee. We would have hoped that this season’s results were better, but all of us recognise that the team is very young and are growing in experience with each game.”

Hereford lost 17-10 to Burton last Saturday and are just four points above the relegation zone in Midlands 1 West.

But Stewart is confident his side will stay up.

“Some of the older boys have left, but I didn’t expect it to be as many as it was,” he said.

“The main style of the players is still the same, but sometimes we need to be tighter to see games out.

“But the players will learn more by making mistakes .

“On Saturday, they were a lot bigger and heavier than us, but we were only 12-10 down with three minutes to go.

“The boys put in a great shift in, but we had a 17-year-old, a couple of 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old starting. But I am confident we will be ok.

“We’ve got six home games and three away left.

“We’ve got the leaders Newport at home, which will be very difficult, but we’ve also got to play teams around us.”

Hereford’s try was scored by Tom Ewins, with Callum Brayshaw converting. Brayshaw also kicked over a penalty.

“I asked the boys before the game for a performance, that’s exactly what we had and it is great to get a bonus point,” added Fisher.

“There were some excellent personal performances from youngsters Callum Brayshaw and Ewan Duncan and it was great to see Ollie Hutcheson and Jamie Hodges from the second-string play so well,” added Fisher.
