LEDBURY Rugby Club have extended their winning run to eight games at Ross Road following a 27-5 triumph over Upton-on-Severn.

The win means they are now 12 points clear of third-placed Evesham in the race for promotion from Midlands 3 West (South), although the Worcestershire side do have a game in hand.

Upton started positively, with a large amount of the opening 20 minutes spent in Ledbury's line.

But the hosts' defence was outstanding, especially as they were reduced to 14 men following a yellow card to Ali Park.

One meaningful attack from Ledbury resulted in Matt Hallett feeding Dave Bromage to score a try; Ben Smith adding the conversion.

Park then scored a try after returning to the pitch to make it 12-0 to Ledbury at half time.

The hosts started slowly after the break and it was only after Upton reduced the deficit with a try that they upped the tempo.

Straight up the other end, a penalty was awarded in front of the posts and Smith extended the lead.

From the restart, Elliot Bee gathered the ball and fed Gary Nicholson, whose silky feet resulted in an excellent try.

Ledbury sealed the win with a penalty try to ensure they picked up five points.

This Saturday, Ledbury host bottom club Bedworth.
