HEREFORD RFC ground out a dogged 26-5 win over rivals Worcester Wanderers that secures back-to-back wins in Midlands 1 West.

The Wyesiders opened the scoring in the fourth minute when prop Jock Welch drove over, which was quickly followed by a fine try by ex captain Matt Pritchard.

Further pressure duly produced two penalties, which Morgan Goodall slotted over to give Hereford a 16-0 lead.

The Wyesiders' hard work was in evidence in their secure handling and tactical play, with Worcester only applying serious pressure in the set scrums.

However, it was not until 15 minutes into the second half that Worcester made their only score when they crossed for an unconverted try.

Hereford's defence held firm, with the game being hard fought.

And it was the Wyesiders who took the game away from Worcester, adding further tries through James Stubbs.

"Whilst they might be disappointed they did not manage to clinch a bonus point on this occasion, Hereford will be pleased to take a convincing win from a hard fought game," said Hereford president Mike Rowlatt.

"They have now completed a run of five games without loss.

"All will be aware of the challenge in sustaining this progress, but this run of form is great for morale.

"To complete the picture, Hereford’s second team also enjoyed a fine win over Worcester."
