HEREFORD Rugby Club kicked off their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 45-7 win over Lydney.

The Wyesiders rattled in seven tries against their higher-graded opponents in ideal conditions for running with the ball.

Hereford opened the scoring with a push over try that was credited to Lewis Jordan; Morgan Goodall kicking over the conversion.

Within 15 minutes, Hereford had added two further tries, both from Leon Parsons.

Goodall converted the second try to make the score 19-0 in favour of the home side.

Lydney responded by putting the Hereford defence under sustained pressure and eventually created a rare opening to cut through for a well earned try, which was converted.

Hereford closed the half at 26-7 with a well worked try from Goodall following some slick handling movement.

Lydney started the second period with great resolve and put the Hereford defence under intense pressure for the first 10 minutes until Parsons touched down for his hat-trick; Dean Powell this time adding the conversion.

Hereford continued to attack and scored two further tries before the end through Tom Watkins and Matt Milson; Powell converting the second.

“We had several key players missing, but the youngsters stepped up to the plate and have given us selection difficulties of the right sort," said Hereford coach Bob Stewart.
