JIMMY Norris bowed out in the best possible way by scoring a try in his last game for Luctonians.

The flying winger has been a key player for Lucs for the past five years and is a former captain of the Mortimer Park side.

The 27-year-old will be marrying his partner Nicole this Saturday before emigrating to Australia.

He has already lined up a deal with Sydney side Drummoyne, who play in Suburban Division One, as well as coaching in some schools.

Norris – who scored against Otley last Saturday – also finishes on a high at Hereford Sixth Form College after the rugby side won their league.

"I'm really excited for it," said Norris.

"I'm going to Thailand first for my honeymoon before going to Sydney.

"I lived in Brisbane in 2009 and played for the University of Queensland.

"I've always wanted to move back – it has always been my dream."

Norris, who has starred Newport Gwent Dragons and represented Wales at under-16, under-18, under-19 and under-20 levels, was presented with a commemorative photograph to mark his last appearance at Mortimer Park following the win over Tynedale.

He said he will take away many memories of playing for the Kingsland side.

"Last season was particularly special [when Luctonians stayed up on the last day]," said Norris.

"We had to go to Harrogate at Otley and beat them away and then beat Leicester Lions.

"We beat Leicester on the last day, but some people forget that we had to go to Otley and win there too.

"So it was quite nice that my last game was against Otley.

"I think rugby is about relationships and the players you play with – the team we have now is probably the most talented we have had in my time at the club.

"I have made some friends for life."

Luctonians' 32-28 win at Otley was their 10th victory this year and they are well on course to finish the season in mid-table.

"I was slightly worried coming into the game because we were more or less safe, but I challenged them to win the remaining four games," explained director of rugby Alex Davidson.

"Otley didn't give up and didn't want us to do the double over them.

"It was pleasing to get the bonus point as well and it was no fluke – they were really crafted tries."

Josh Watkins was the star of the show, helping himself to a hat-trick of tries.

The first was scored after just two minutes, which John Morris converted.

But Otley levelled things up when winger Kristian Sharples went over; Stephen Depledge adding the extras.

Back came Lucs, who went back in the lead thanks to another Watkins try, before prop Anthony Marfell was sent to the sin bin.

Number eight Max Hill was also yellow-carded for Lucs and Otley grabbed a try through Matt Heaton.

Depledge's conversion made the score 14-12 in favour of the home side, but Morris' successful penalty just before half-time handed the initiative back in favour of Luctonians.

By the 55 minute mark, Lucs led 25-12 after Watkins and Morris both scored tries, but Otley never gave up and got back into the game when Heaton drove over for his second try of the game; Depledge converting.

Another try was scored minutes later by centre James White, with the two extra points putting Otley two points clear.

But Lucs had the last word when Aiden Cheshire went over and Morris added the conversion.

This Saturday, Luctonians host Stourbridge.
