LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson believes his side will all but guarantee their stay in National League 2 North if they beat Tynedale at Mortimer Park this Saturday.

Davidson thinks 62 points will be enough for Lucs to preserve their league status and ensure they won't be nervously looking over their shoulder come the last few games of the season.

"It's a massive trip for them coming all the way down from Newcastle and it's the first time they will be coming to Mortimer Park," said Davidson.

"We have played Huddersfield and South Leicester recently and, if you would have said at the start of the year that we would have had four points out of those two games, I would have taken it.

"I think 62 points will be enough to guarantee safety."

Lucs go into the game on the back of a 22-22 draw at South Leicester, dropping the Kingsland down down a place into 10th position on 58 points.

"We really struggled with our set pieces, which meant we couldn't get the four tries for a bonus point and allowed them to be in the game," added Davidson.

"There were seven scrum penalties against us and one for, but to be fair, out line-outs were poor and dripped below 50 per cent, which meant we couldn't keep the ball."

Lucs still have a game in hand on all but one of the teams below them in the division, with four of their five games coming at Mortimer Park.

Owen Davies opened the scoring for Luctonians against South Leicester with a try, before the home side immediately hit back through Chris Gibbs; Ricky Aley converting.

But, just before the break, Joe Doyle finished a well-worked move with a try, converted by John Morris to regain Lucs' lead.

Will Burton extended the advantage with another try in the 48th minute, which Morris again converted.

South Leicester hit back through tries by Calum Gunn and Jacob Heath before Morris kicked over a penalty.

But the home side levelled the match in the last minute when Gunn again went over.
