GREYHOUND captain Joe Morris says bringing back older players has helped the team.

The Hereford side have started a social team of veterans who are willing to help the first team, especially as injuries have hampered the side.

"We're looking good now and the club is starting to look up," said Morris, who is currently out injured after dislocating his knee in training.

"We've recently started a social and vets team and we're starting to bring back some of the older lads, which brings some good experience into the team.

"They're playing roughly once a month and some of those are filling in for the firsts if and when needed.

"We've lost some regular, very experienced players and they're also out for the foreseeable future.

"But, luckily towards the end of the season, we've started to pick up some new signings which has brought the team's morale up and give us a good start for next season."

Meanwhile, a memorial game will take place on May 1 in aid of former player Steve Tobin and Paul McAleese, who played for Greyhound before dying on active duty in Afghanistan in 2009.

"We used to play two separate fixtures, but are amalgamating it into one day," explained Morris.

"We have got the juniors starting in the morning at 10, the women are also playing and we have the seniors.

"It will be a Pups versus Vets match, so your older boys playing the first team.

"Everyone is welcome and it will be nice to have a few new faces down.

"It is free entry and there will be a donation pot for anyone who would like to give donations."
