LEDBURY Rugby Club face arguably their biggest game in a long time when they face Oundle this Saturday in the Midlands Senior Vase final.

The Ross Road side are just two wins away from stepping out at Twickenham, but face a very tough ask against an Oundle side who are flying in their league.

The Northamptonshire club 16 points clear at the top of Midlands 3 East (South) having won 16 of their 18 games, while Ledbury are fourth in Midlands 3 West (South).

And if Ledbury do prevail, they will host West Leeds in the national semi-finals.

West Leeds are unbeaten in Yorkshire, with 18 wins out of 21 to their name.

A large crowd is expected at Oundle and Ledbury are running a supporters coach the game.

Ledbury go into the game on the back of a 30-20 win against Old Leamingtonians that keeps their slim promotion hopes alive.

Chris Stokes opened the scoring for Ledbury with a try before George Bennion kicked over a penalty.

Old Leamingtonians responded well and with a succession of driving mauls and eventually recorded a try to reduce the deficit.

But Ledbury extended their lead through an Ali Park try before the same player again went over.

Bennion converted both tries to taker Ledbury into a 15-point lead.

However, the away side converted a try before half-time and the grew stronger after the break.

Right from the kick-off, a bouncing ball wasn't gathered, leaving the Old Leamingtonians number eight acres of space to run away and score a try.

Ledbury's lead was then only three points when the away side kicked over a penalty.

But a try by Jamie Rayfield, converted by Bennion, gave Ledbury some breathing space and they held on for the win.

They are fourth in the division, eight points off second-placed Southam.

Meanwhile, Ross-on-Wye went down 39-16 to Ashley Down Old Boys in Gloucester 2.
