HEREFORD stretched their winning streak to six games thanks to an excellent 20-11 victory at rivals Worcester Wanderers in Midlands 1 West.

The Wyesiders are now fourth in the division and still have an outside chance of gaining a play-off place.

Hereford played up the slope against the stiff breeze in the first half and restricted Wanderers to just a brace of penalty goals.

In the second half, the Wyesiders had the wind at their backs and soon forced a penalty, which Dean Powell slotted to reduce the deficit to three points.

Hereford then won a penalty in midfield and opted to take a scrum and force an opening for centre Tom Ewins to elude the home defence and register a try, which gave them lead for the first time after 52 minutes.

The extra points were added by Powell to give Hereford a narrow four point advantage.

Hereford's pressure forced a penalty and cost a Wanderers player a yellow card, Dean Powell landing the penalty.

Wanderers came back and, after their best period which tested the competent Hereford defence to the full, they moved the ball wide and scored an unconverted try in the corner. With the Hereford lead cut to two points and time running out, Hereford closed the game off with a second try.

Morgan Goodall put in a delicate kick behind the Wanderers defence and back row forward Luke Yarranton followed up to collect the ball and claim the try, Morgan Goodall slotting over the conversion.

"This was a good team performance without a weak link," said Hereford press officer Rob Davies.

"The forwards more than held their own and the backs combined well to give the opposition some anxious moments.

"Two of the young members of the team deserve special mention.

"Callum Duncan excelled in the lineout and put in a grand shift on the blindside of the scrum, while wing Leon Parsons made some telling and determined runs.

"Coach, Bob Stewart was pleased with the way his team stuck to the patterns and structures rehearsed in training.

"He selected Dean Powell as his man of the match for the way he controlled the game and put in a number of good tackles in defence."
