LEDBURY will be putting their promotion push to one side this Saturday when they look to take a step closer to Twickenham.

The Ross Road side will travel to Corby to face Stewarts & Lloyds in the semi-finals of the Midlands Senior Vase.

If Ledbury win that tie and the subsequent final against either Oundle or Southam on March 26, they will square off against the winners of the northern competition on April 9 in a national semi-final.

And if they get through that game, the county side will be playing at Twickenham in the national final on May 7.

"We want to get something out of the season," said Ledbury captain Rob Anscomb.

"We've played in the wind, rain and mud and want to be rewarded for that.

"To play at Twickenham would be amazing because no t many rugby players get to play there in their lifetime."

Ledbury are still in with a shout of promotion from Midlands 3 West (South), but their hopes of going up took a dent last Saturday when they went down to a narrow 19-18 defeat to Old Coventrians.

Ledbury were slow out of the blocks and were lucky to be only 3-0 down following a succession of sloppy penalties.

However, they managed to get a grip on the game and started playing some rugby.

George Bennion levelled the game with a penalty before a poor kick from Old Coventrians gave Ali Park space at fullback to touch down.

But the away side suffered a blow when George Bennion was yellow carded, which led to a try from the resulting penalty.

The referee again reached into his pocket shortly before half-time and sent Ledbury skipper Rob Anscomb to the sin bin.

Another yellow card was issued after the break when Arron Almond was deemed to have "pulled down a maul".

But Ledbury grabbed a try when Park fed Dave Bromage to tap down, which Bennion converted.

A frantic last 10 minutes saw Ledbury penalised at every break down.

This resulted in Old Coventrians scoring out wide to reduce Ledbury's lead before Harry Porter was another away player who was yellow carded.

Both teams kicked over penalties near the end of the game, with Old Coventrians prevailing.
