LUCTONIANS capitalised on their home advantage to gain a crucial win against Caldy in National league 2 North.

With their elements at their tails, the home side adapted to the conditions first and were rewarded with a penalty five metres short of the Caldy try line.

Louis Silver duly obliged with the kick to put Lucs 3-0 up.

Caldy's chances of getting back in the game were hit when tight-head prop Derek Salisbury was sent to the sin bin for foul play.

However, then he came back on the field, Caldy were awarded a penalty only to see Richard Vasey's kick failing to go over.

A series of tight phases by the home pack eventually saw Owen Davies score against the upright to open up a 10point advantage at half-time.

Caldy started the second half brightly and Vasey kicked over a penalty kick to reduce the arrears.

But Lucs extended their lead with a second try on 50 minutes.

The ball eventually arrived to captain Dan Smith, who went over; Silver adding the extras.

New recruit Max Mueller appeared off the bench for Lucs and won several turnovers to thwart any Caldy fight-back.

This Saturday, Lucs make the mammoth journey to Tynedale in a rearranged match.
