LEDBURY and Greyhound both enjoyed fine wins in their respective league matches at the weekend.

Two tries from Matt Hallett and one each for Charlie Barber-Starkey and Jamie Rayfield saw Ledbury comfortably beat Woodrush 26-0 in Midlands 3 West (South), while Greyhound eased to a 35-8 Midlands 5 West (North) victory over Chaddesley Corbett.

Ledbury are just four points off the top two places and this Saturday face second-placed Evesham in the quarter-finals of the Midlands Senior Vase.

The south Herefordshire side led 12-0 at half-time against Woodrush after Ali Park converted a Hallett try.

Park then added further conversions after the break after Barber-Starkey, Hallett and Rayfield went over.

Greyhound had to come from behind to beat Chaddesley Corbett and were pinned in their own half for the first 15 minutes.

But, after Oli Paton went over, for a try, the Hereford side grew stronger.

Matt Eden added another try before the away side kicked over a penalty.

Eden broke through the defence to grab his second try after the break before scrum-half Pete Smith went over.

Liam Webdale sealed the win with another try shortly before the end; Eden kicking over all the conversions.

Bromyard's hopes of going up from Midlands 4 West (North) took a knock after they fell to a 13-8 defeat at the hands of fellow promotion contenders Barton-under-Needwood.

Tom Morris scored Bromyard's only try, with Matt Swain kicking over a penalty.

Bromyard, who claimed a losing bonus point, host fourth-placed Telford Hornets this Saturday in a rearranged game.

Ross-on-Wye are now languishing in mid-table in Gloucester 2 after falling to a 17-3 defeat to Smiths (Industries).
