WORCESTER Warriors are hoping to find the next generation of rugby stars in Herefordshire after providing five weeks of coaching sessions at St Weonards Primary School.
The Warriors have a large catchment area in the county and deliver rugby lessons to a number of schools and clubs in the region.
The sessions were part of Aviva Premiership scheme ‘On The Front Foot’ which aims to engage children through rugby with a tournament at the end of the five weeks.
Children from years four, five and six learned about teamwork and decision-making as well as sport-specific skills such as catching and passing with an emphasis on rugby.
“I had a fantastic five weeks at St Weonards and the children were a pleasure to coach," said Warriors community coach Ben Penfold.
“It's a fantastic school out in rural Herefordshire along with great facilities and I hope some of them have been inspired to join a local rugby club.”
And parent Rosey Price believes her daughter really benefited from the experience.
She said: “It’s only a small rural school but they have been lucky enough to receive coaching from a professional club. I know the children have thoroughly enjoyed their experience.”
