TWO county schools have recently registered impressive wins in rugby.

Hereford Cathedral School (HCS) comfortably beat King's Worcester 20-3, while the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School Under-15s advanced to the fifth round of the NatWest Cup after overcoming Crypt Grammar School from Gloucester.

HCS played in the wind in the first half against King's in the annual match at Wyeside and went ahead thanks to a penalty from Olly Gatson.

Kings then started to gain some momentum and, after missing a three-point chance, levelled the match after 15 minutes.

The majority of the next 15 minutes were spent in the home team's 22, but some determined defence and a turnover at a line-out put HCS back into the opposition half. and they almost scored from a driving line-out.

The second half started well for HCS and, after three rucks, created an overlap for Sam Prestwich to score.

The home side continued to press but the home side went further ahead with a Charlie Samwells try, converted by Gatson.

Jack Helme then found space to feed Ellis Ward to score to wrap up the win.

Bishop's School dominated the opening exchanges against Crypt and went into half-time 15-8 ahead thanks to tries from Euan Proctor and Jurijs Kudrjavcevs.

Ollie Rogoff converted Proctor's touchdown and also added a penalty.

Crypt made a strong start to the second half, putting Bishop's under a lot of pressure, which was rewarded when they scored.

But Bishop's worked hard as a team ans created two further tries from Proctor, characterised by strong handling and great handling skills.

Rogoff converted one of the tries to put Bishop's 27-13 in front.

Crypt did grab a try of their own in the last 10 minutes, but Bishop's held on to register a 27-18 victory.

Bishop's will be home to Dean Close from Cheltenham in the next round, which is due to take place next Thursday.

Meanwhile, Whitecross High School's Under-13 beat their equivalents from Aylestone 15-10 at Hereford City Sports Club on Monday.

Prior to the match, Aylestone were presented with a kit thanks to a joint initiative between Greyhound and the Rugby Football Union.
