LEDBURY maintained their unbeaten start in Midlands 3 West (South) by dramatically beating fellow high-fliers Evesham 13-10 at Ross Road.

A penalty five minutes from time by George Bennion won the game for the home side after they came from 10-0 down.

A bright start from Ledbury saw them have good territory from some useful kicking from a number of their backs.

But it was Evesham who took the lead thanks to a penalty, which they took into half-time.

The second half started slowly and some scrappy play from Ledbury led to a driving maul from Evesham, which led to hem going over the line.

A successful conversion put them 10-0 in front.

Ledbury immediately responded, with their forwards forcing a penalty, which George Bennion kicked over.

The home side then levelled the match when James Cooke was on hand to score his debut try for the club, with Bennion adding extras.

With 10 minutes to go, Evesham had a chance at a shot at goal from a penalty, but instead chose to go for the corner.

That proved costly, as five minutes later, Dave Bromage sent Bennion through and when the ball was sent wide, some excellent work from Matt Hallett and Rob Ansomb gave Ledbury a penalty to win the game, which was snapped up by Bennion.

Matt Swain, meanwhile, scored a record 39 points form Bromyard in a convincing 79-0 win against Aldridge in Midlands 4 West (North).

He bagged a hat-trick of tries before half-time and added the rest of his points with the boot.

Greg Leighton and John Pudge also crossed over for tries int he first 40 minutes, with Leighton adding another after the break.

Australian Pat Weston, Tom Gallagher and John Parker also crossed over, with Alex Parker adding two other tries.
