A PLAYER who was inspirational for Luctonians during a loan spell last season is set to pen a deal to join the club on a permanent basis.

Louis Silver will train at Mortimer Park tonight having left Cinderford and could be in line to to face Sale in a National league 2 North fixture this Saturday.

Luctonians director of rugby Alex Davidson believes Silver will add much-needed leadership to his struggling side.

"He is set to be a Luctonian outright rather than coming in on loan and we hope to complete the paperwork, all being well," said Davidson.

"He enjoyed his rugby while playing for us and, with him studying for a genealogy degree at Cardiff University, I think he just wants to play rugby for enjoyment rather than making a career out of it.

"He started the first game for Cinderford, but after that, they didn't select him or even talk to him, which we hope to benefit from."

Davidson added he is hopeful more players could soon come onboard, especially after the Rugby World Cup has finished at the end of the month.

"Post-World Cup, there be may be more interest from abroad," said Davidson.

"We need more size upfront."

Lucs are bottom of the National League 2 North table having lost five of their opening six games of the season.

Their latest reverse was a 34-5 defeat against Chester at Mortimer Park.

"It was a complete no-show by the boys and we can't put our finger on why," said Davidson.

"We were very tied on the Tuesday after the Sedgley Park game and did a tactical session, but didn't seem to recover.

"We started brightly for the first 10 minutes, but that seemed to waken up Chester and it was all them for the rest of the game."

A well-taken lineout on 12 minutes led to Jimmy Norris cutting in on the left to score a try and put Lucs ahead.

But, that was as good as it got for the home side as Chester took firm control of the game.

Tom Foden, John Ketland, James Preston and Kyle Joseph all grabbed tries to earn Chester a bonus point win, with Callum Bennett kicking over the extras.
