SEBASTIAN Freydell believes Luctonians have a bright future after hooking up with the club this season.

The second row forward, who has represented Austria, had no hesitation in coming to England after being contacted by Lucs director of rugby Alex Davidson.

Freydell impressed alongside Mike Cheasley in the second row last Saturday to help the Mortimer Park club gain their first National League 2 North win of the season.

"Alex Davidson contacted me to ask to play for Luctonians because they needed a second row forward and I thought I would give it a shot," said Freydell.

"It's a great community club and the people who are working in the background do a lot of stuff and everybody is working together and you see the turnout was great.

"It's definitely a club for the future because it has a lot of youth and that is the only thing that counts."

Freydell, who is staying in Leominster, is a well-travelled player having lived in South Africa, Austria, Argentina and France.

But he says he is enjoying the Herefordshire countryside.

"The area is very nice and I like it because it is very relaxed," said Freydell.

"I have played a few games in England before, but only against teams so never lived here before.

"Because of the conditions, there is more contact and is more physical and more tactics.

"You cannot run much in these conditions, like you can on hard ground."

Freydell added that Luctonians worked hard for their first league win.

"Everyone was focused which is good for the next league games coming up," he said.

"We have definitely had problems in the scrums but we sorted them out and the young prop Joe [White] was definitely on.

"Me and Cheasley in the second row found a good combination."

Luctonians started slowly against Huddersfield and conceded a penalty after eight minutes, which Chris Bell slotted over.

But the home side stormed back to score two quick-fire tries.

First, Will Hodnett raced the length of the field to score on the 14 minute mark before Joe Doyle added another three minutes later.

Both tries were converted by Geraint Langdon to put Lucs 14-3 ahead.

Langdon had another chance to increase his side's lead halfway through the first half, but on this occasion, failed to kick his penalty over the posts.

That could have proved costly when Bell kicked over another penalty to reduce Huddersfield's deficit after 27 minutes.

But good inter-play from Lucs led to captain Dan Smith to go over in the corner to take his side into the half-time break 19-6 ahead.

Hodnett was sent to the sinbin at the start of the second half, but the disruption did not affect Luctonians as they increased their lead to 20 points after Langdon converted Cheasley's try.

Langdon kicked a penalty 10 minutes later to take the score to 29-6 in Lucs' favour before ill-discipline saw Huddersfield receive a number of cards,

One of those was to prop James Purcell, who was sent off following a couple of altercations.

The away side did get on the scoresheet four minutes from time when Nick Rhodes crashed over, Bell converting, but it was too little, too late and Lucs claimed a vital win.
