Frost adds to his England international caps

PROMISING young scrum-half Oli Frost has added to his international honours after being picked for England in the Under-18 Six Nations Championship.

Frost, a former pupil at the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, began his rugby career at Hereford RFC before joining the Worcester Academy when he moved to Bromsgrove School to continue his education.

After being picked at under-16 level for England last season, Frost, the joint holder of the Hereford Times Ted Woodriffe Award with George Thomas, an England under-18 pick last season, has gained international recognition at the next age-group stage a year early.

After being overlooked for the tournament's opening match against host country Scotland, Frost made his under-18 international debut when he replaced Devon's David Lewis after 56 minutes in England's 21-9 defeat by Wales.

Despite the defeat, there were encouraging comments for Frost after the game.

"The selectors told Oli that he did very well and that they were pleased with him," said Frost's father Nigel.

The team management were indeed sufficiently impressed to give Frost a start in the final match against Ireland which resulted in a 23-12 victory.

Frost played for 59 minutes before giving way to Lewis.

Unfortunately for him, this will be the end of Frost's under-18 career as, although most players would expect two years at this level after coming through from under-16, he is three weeks too old to be eligible for selection for next season.

With the under-19 England set-up being phased out, Frost's next international opportunity will not come until he gets in line for selection for the under-20 side.
