EMOTIONAL Chris Jaques said that his time at Luctonians was the best experience of his life.

The second rower bowed out of Mortimer Park having spent 13 seasons in the first team, including a spell as captain.

His team mates lifted him on their shoulders following the dramatic win against Leicester Lions that secured their National League 2 North status for another season.

"It's been one of the biggest emotional roller coasters of my life and have made that many friends," said Jaques.

"I just want to thank everybody that has been involved in the club since I have been here, it's been a pleasure and an honour.

"I was captain for a while and been through the highs and lows.

"It's been the best experience of my life."

Jaques added that Lucs always seem to rise to the occasion and had dreamt of staying up ever since Christmas.

"The boys have dug deep and showed what characters they are," he said.

"They were absolutely brutal in the first half and were really physical.

"We knew we had to lift it up a gear and had 40 minutes to save our season.

"Our mentality was that we had to win and didn't really care what was happening elsewhere.

"They aren't my mates, they're my brothers and I'll still be with them through thick and thin,"
