SPIRITED scores either side of half-time weren’t enough to prevent Bromyard succumbing to a 29-10 home defeat to promotion hopefuls Cannock in Midlands 4 West (North).

John Parker and Rob Legge both powered over the Cannock line for tries, but with the Staffordshire side’s forwards dominating, Bromyard were always playing catch-up. Cannock now need to win their final game against Telford Hornets this weekend to join champions Cleobury Mortimer in being promoted.

Bromyard wrap up their league season with a visit from bottom dogs Tenbury, and then tackle Clee Hill next Tuesday night in the final of the Champions League Floodlit Trophy (7.30pm).

At the foot of Midlands 4 West (North) Greyhound are already relegated but will want to do everything they can to avoid the wooden spoon in their final fixture at home to Market Drayton. They need to match Tenbury’s result at Bromyard if they are to keep themselves from finishing in bottom spot.

Ledbury round off their programme in Midlands 3 West (South) with a visit from mid-table rivals Pershore, and will be bidding for a fourth win on the bounce as they attempt to avenge a 29-10 opening day defeat at the Worcestershire club.

In South West Gloucester 2, Ross-on-Wye, set to finish in third place, draw the curtain on a doughty campaign with a trip to lowly Broad Plain.

Meanwhile, two players with Hereford connections hit the screens over Easter with impressive performances.

Dan George, who coaches the Hereford forwards, turned out for Worcester Warriors in the British and Irish Cup final on Good Friday evening against Doncaster Knights at Castle Park.

The Welsh hooker scored one of WorcesteR'S four tries as they overcame their Yorkshire opponents 35-3.

And back-row forward GuyThompson, a former Bishop's School pupil, played for Wasps in their televised European Champions Cup quarter-final tie against French club Toulon on Sunday.

The Coventry-based club were knocked out after finishing on the receiving end of a 38-12 scoreline.

Hereford travel to Silhillians this Saturday, knowing they have to win to stay in contention for a play-off place from Midlands 1 West.
