DIRECTOR of rugby Alex Davidson believes that two wins from their remaining three games will be enough to keep Luctonians in National League 2 North.

The Mortimer Park side are locked on 50 points with Birmingham & Solihull in the battle to stay up, with Hull second bottom on 48.

Preston Grasshoppers and Leicester Lions, who are on 54 and 58 points respectively, are also looking over their shoulders as the league enters its final few weeks.

"I think two out of three wins will be enough," said Davidson.

"I hope those wins come in our next two games and we can see out the season with a home game against Leicester Lions with nothing to play for.

"If there is still something riding on it, then nerves start playing a part."

Lucs will fancy their chances of winning their final two home games, against Chester and Leicester Lions, while Harrogate, whom they travel to on the penultimate weekend of the season, have recently faltered.

Birmingham & Solihull recorded a home win against Huddersfield last Saturday, while Luctonians went down 26-0 to league leaders Hull Ionians.

Davidson said that, although Lucs enjoyed a lot of possession at times, Hull Ionians were well-drilled.

"We probably made 12 or 15 line-breaks but couldn't finish anything off," said Davidson.

"But that was more to their defence and discipline.

"They are the best team we have faced this season, they had the total package.

"I think it will be neck and neck between them and Ampthill for the title."

Lucs were without three players for the Hull Ionians clash, including scrum-half Louis Silver, who has been influential with the boot this season.

Sam Boxhall, who has only recently turned 18, therefore made his debut at number nine.

"We signed him on when he was 17 just before Christmas," said Davidson.

"He was probably our best player."

Lucs had the early play in the match, but were punished when they lost possession, leading to Sam Wilson scoring a try.

Hull's control led to earning a penalty try after 25 minutes before adding another try.

Chris Reakes converted all three tries to give Hull Ionians a comfortable 21-point half-time lead.

There was little attacking play after the break, with blustery conditions making handling difficult.

Replacement scrum-half Isaac Green settled the game with a bonus-point try 10 minutes from time.
