HEREFORD Cathedral School student Will Butler has set his sights on a place in the Worcester Warriors Senior Academy after starring for their under-18s.

Butler, 16 has been playing in the Aviva Premiership Under-18 Academy League and was recently rewarded with an appearance for Warriors’ second-string side Worcester Cavaliers against an Army side at Sixways.

“It was a great experience and a proud one foe me with my family watching right by the tunnel,” said Butler.

“All day I’d been thinking about it and gearing up to it, but it couldn’t have gone better and it was a great result beating The Army.”

Butler, who is studying for his A-levels, has played at Ledbury through his teenage years.

“I started playing for Hereford Cathedral in Year 3 before trialling for Herefordshire County when I was at under-13," said Butler.

“From there, I was seen by Worcester selectors.

“I’ve been at Ledbury since I was six and I still play for them occasionally.”

Worcester have set up a Junior Academy Centre at Hereford Cathedral School, which Butler says will help young players reach the top.

“It’s massively important to have these centres for young rugby players,” said Butler.

“When people in Hereford see how Warriors are progressing it should spur them on to try and reach the top.

“Growing up in Hereford, if you’re looking to play rugby on the big stage, then Warriors are your team.”
