VETERAN prop Tara Barnett said he is always happy to offer to support for Ross RFC after making a cameo appearance last Saturday.

The former Ledbury and Cinderford forward, who had trials for England, retired from playing in 2011.

But he says he is still available whenever he is needed.

“I enjoyed it immensely,” said Barnett.

“I’ve had two hips done, so have finished playing, but if they;re short, I’ll come on and help out.

“This is the fourth or fifth time I have played this season.

“Most of my rugby was played in the Forest, so it was nice to come back when I started from.

Ross are now three points behind Bishopton in third place in Gloucester 2, with the top two teams earning promotion. The two sides meet at Bishopton next Saturday, which realistically Ross cannot afford to lose.

Before then though, the Greytree side have a Forest of Dean Combination Cup against Lydney this weekend.

Their next home league game is against Bristol Aeoplane Company on March 28. before finishing at Broad Plane on April 18.

"We have been working on things throughout the season, like working on each other's shoulder and we're a fast-flowing rugby team," said Ross captain Matthew Redman.

“We have had a couple of hiccups in January, but we’ve had a few wins under our belt now and have got three games left.

“All we have to think about now is promotion into second place."
