LOUIS Silver's boot helped Luctonians to a vital win against Sedgley Park to ensure to keep up with their relegation rivals in the battle to stay up.

Silver kicked over two conversions and three penalties in the 23-19 win at Mortimer Park.

The win was even more vital for Lucs as Birmingham & Solihull came away from Harrogate with a 35-34 victory, while Hull overcame Otley 30-18.

It means that Luctonians are second from bottom with 42 points, but a point behind both Birmingham & Solihull and Hull.

Stockport are cut adrift at the bottom and realistically it looks like two out of three teams that will go down with them.

Luctonians started strongly and opened their account through a Dan Smith a try that Silver converted.

They then extended their lead through a Silver penalty before Jimmy Norris outpaced Sedgley Park's full-back to score in the corner.

Silver added the conversion to put Luctonians 17-0 to the good.

Sedgley Park got on the scoresheet when Andrew Riley went over, with Matt Riley adding the extras.

Riley then scored himself to reduce the arrears further.

Silver added a penalty after the break before Oliver Parkinson scored for the visitors.

Riley successfully converted it to leave the visitors to within a point of Lucs.

But the home side were awarded another penalty, which Silver kicked over to secure the win.

Luctonians are not in action this Saturday, but face a titanic clash at Birmingham & Solihull on March 7.
