TRY scoring hero Joe Doyle hailed a much needed win as Luctonians beat bottom club Stockport to give themselves a fighting chance of staying in National League 2 North.

The Kingsland side are now level on points with Birmingham & Solihull following the 31-20 win at Mortimer Park.

Doyle's brace came within six minutes of each other in the second half, with Adam Knight, Jordan Street and Jon Hughes adding the other tries to ensure Luctonians secured a bonus point.

"We had to earn the right to score the tries and put in a lot of hard work," said Doyle.

"It helped having a few new faces to freshen it up and we did well.

"Louis Silver came in at number nine and Jon Hughes came off the bench to replace Jimmy Norris who got injured.

"The back three of Jon, Adam Knight and myself all scored tries, which was pleasing.

"It shows the style of rugby we are willing to play."

It took just two minutes for Alex Davidson's side to open the scoring when Knight crashed over in the corner; Silver duly converted.

Two George Smith penalties reduced the arrears for Stockport, but Luctonians lifted their game to put Street over with Silver slotting over the kick once more.

Stockport started the second half well and were rewarded with a Mike Waddington try that Smith converted.

But Lucs once again found another gear and brilliant handling from Will Burton and Doyle put Hughes in for a try.

Doyle then added his two tries to take the game away from Stockport.

But the away side did manage to grab a try before the end from Kieran Hibbs, which Smith converted.

Luctonians travel to leaders Amphtill this Saturday.

"It will be very tough but we will be going there with the mentality that we can score four tries," said Doyle.
