LUKE Clarke and Will Butler both grabbed two tries each as Hereford Cathedral School (HCS) came away from Llandrovery College with a first ever win.
Llandovery grabbed an early try to go 5-0 ahead and HCS were put under a lot of pressure.
But HCS started to improve and Butler put Clarke away for a converted try. Butler scored again from the kick-off, taking a quick pass and drifting between two defenders to outpace the cover defence.
Olly Gaston added the conversion to put HCS 17-12 ahead.
Clarke continued to be a threat with his pace and scored again before feeding Shaun Meredith to go over the line. Skipper Gaston then grabbed a quick-thinking try before a defensive lapse allowed Llandovery to score just before half-time, with a conversion added.
The second half started with HCS conceding a penalty, which was successfully kicked over.
But HCS increased their lead when Butler kicked the ball past the full-back to score a fantastic opportunistic try, with Gaston converting. Llandovery came back and continued to play most of their rugby through the forwards. They were rewarded by scoring a converted try, but HCS held on for the 36-29 win
βIt was a thoroughly deserved victory from a squad that have worked extremely hard over the season,β said HCS spokesman Richard Skyrme.
