ALEX Davidson was left disappointed after Luctonians only managed to gain a losing bonus point at Huddersfield.
The Mortimer Park club’s director of rugby felt a draw would have been a fair reflection of the game.
Instead, Huddersfield went on to win 19-12, meaning that Luctonians are still in the bottom three in the National League 2 North table.
“It was a typical post-Christmas game,” said Davidson.
“There was no real structure to the game and it was mainly played in the middle of the park.
“They scored first after taking a quick line-out, which caught us napping, and at one point it was 19-5.
“Their third try came about after the referee lost control of a breakdown and they scored from that.
“Two of the tries were a bit tenuous to be honest.
“Huddersfield are down there with us, but I thought we had the upper hand in the scrum and lineouts.
“But we didn’t play the right tactics.”
After Huddersfield scored a try through Dave Hall, Chris Jacques went over for Luctonians.
It remained 7-5 to the Yorkshire outfit at the break, but they upped the ante in the second half.
Huddersfield began running the ball from the restart, resulting in fullback Ben Mitchell grabbed a try .
Tom Owen then extended the lead with another try, which was converted by Chris Bell.
To their credit, Luctonians tried to make a game of it and reduced the deficit 10 minutes from time when Jimmy Norris found space to score in the corner, with Geraint Langdon converting. This Saturday, Lucs host fourth-placed Caldy, who lost to Harrogate last time out.
“Being at home, we would hope to win especially as Caldy never travel well to us,” said Davidson.
“A maximum five-point haul could take us out of the bottom three, which is what we are aiming to do.”
