LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson believes his team are eight points short of where they should be in National League Two (North).

The Kingsland side are currently second-from-bottom with 20 points.

But Davidson knows a few wins will propel the Mortimer Park club up the division.

"We are still creating a lot of chances in games and we are not losing our home games by a massive score," said Davidson.

"We are not panicking but we need points to get us up the table.

"We have got Chester away this Saturday and they lost to Harrogate last weekend, so we will be going there trying to get something out of the game.

"We have then got two home games before Christmas, starting with Harrogate.

"That is a game we are targetting to win before we face Stourbridge, who always seem to struggle with our commitment

"There is then a break until January 3 which will take us just past the half-way point."

Last Saturday, Luctonians went down 36-17 to top-of-the-table Hull Ionians at Mortimer Park.

But Davidson's men gave a good account of themselves and even led 12-3 following tries from Dan Smith and Geraint Langdon, with Langdon converting the first try.

However, Hull's talent eventually showed and they stormed back into the game and go ahead.

Adam Knight reduced the arrears to make it 29-17 to Hull and he even he had the chance to add a second, which if taken, would have given Luctonians a great chance of even winning the game.

But it was Hull who raced further ahead and deny Luctonians a losing bonus point.

"We changed our approach and went back to basics," said Davidson.

"We are always up for games versus the big teams at Mortimer Park, we just need to replicate that in other games and pick up more league points."
