Barkers Butts 29 Hereford 61

DESPITE winning for the fifth straight game - with an average of almost five tries a game - coach Kieram Hallam was still not satisfied with his team.

"There is still much more work to be done if we are to maintain a challenge for promotion," he said.

"But I was pleased with the quality of the attacking play and take comfort from our ability to win while continuing to play below our true potential."

There were some excellent tries but overall it was a below par performance with too many unforced errors and too many penalties conceded.

The Wyesiders made a good start when Morgan Goodall cut through some poor defence to score a good individual try.

Just minutes later, Leon Parsons made an interception to race 50 yards for a try. Goodall converted both to give the visitors a 14 point advantage after less than five minutes.

A third Hereford try from Tom Ewins was sandwiched between a brace of Barkers’ tries, both gifted by unforced error, before James Watters touched down for the fourth. Goodall added the extra points.

A Barkers try completed the first-half scoring at 17-26.

Tries from Parsons and Ewins, both converted by Goodall, extended the Hereford lead to a more comfortable 23 points.

But Barkers earned their bonus point when their forwards drove over for their fourth try and although Hereford stretched away again with an individual try from Mark Philo and another from Ali McColl - both converted by Goodall - Barkers got a final consolation try when a quickly taken penalty caught the Hereford defence napping.

Another fine individual try from Ben Osborne, again improved by Goodall, completed the scoring.

Hereford 2nd won a tight game against Luctonians 3rd at Wyeside 5-3 thanks to a last-minute try from Matt Milsom, who picked up a chip over the Luctonians defence from Rory Edwards.
