WITH long-time Luctonians administrator and director of sport Simon Green-Price preparing to step down at the end of the season, his successor is already in place.

But the new boy, Alex Smith, is hardly unknown around Mortimer Park after being involved with the club for 19 years.

"They are big shoes to fill," said Smith. "But I pride myself on being a Luctonian and I've been here for nearly 20 years, from minis all the way through so I hope I know what the club is all about.

"I can only hope to emulate what Simon has done since he has been here.

"The club is thriving and it's important for me to drive everything forward, not just the rugby, and to make sure that we continue to strive to be the best in the area on all fronts.

"We don't want to stand still - we feel that we have done well in the last six to 10 years and we see ourselves kicking on again in the next 10 years.

"If you stand still, you get overtaken in the end."
