HEREFORD Rugby Club officers and committee members were re-elected en bloc when the Wyeside club held their annual meeting.

President Mike Rowlatt, chairman Ivan Powell, secretary Malcolm Harris and treasurer Phil Green will all hold their positions for a further season.

Harris, however, is standing down as chairman of the junior section - he and his wife Fiona, who will continue to work in the junior section, were thanked for their work over the years by chairman Powell.

Ian Woodman stood down from the position of Webmaster to be replaced by Mick Riedy and Alistair Whitfield who takes over from Mick Riedy as membership secretary.

The club awards were announced by Ivan Powell.

Coaches’ player of the year: Nat Thomas.

Coaches’ award for the most improved player: Gus Lowther.

Players’ Player of the year: Tom Ewins.

Chairman’s award for clubman of the year: Bob Stewart.

Jamie Humphries was awarded his first XV honours tie in recognition of 50 first team appearances.

Although all the awards were made to young players, the chairman emphasised that there was a good balance in the first team, with older players like Matt Pritchard, Jamie Bullock, Billy Sparey and Dave Thomas providing experience and all putting in influential performances

The annual meeting honoured three stalwart club workers, Di Hickinbotham, Tim Bird and Avril Goodall, by electing them to the position of Honorary Vice President.

Avril and sister Di are the first ladies to be made Vice President.

President Mike Rowlatt congratulated the players on a successful season and particularly referred to the outstanding colts squad.

Chairman Ivan Powell confirmed that the coaching team would be built around last season’s successful trio of Mark Harris, Bob Stewart and Andy Williams.

Current skipper Ali McColl thanked the team for their wholehearted support during the season in which the club finished third in Midlands One West.

He said the players were not satisfied with this and would go all-out to earn promotion in the coming season.
