GREYHOUND Women/Girls Touch Rugby team have taken part in their first Midlands tournament at Pershore where they showed plenty of promise with a ninth-place finish.

For a few of the squad, whose ages ranged from 13 upwards, this was their first competitive game and some scored their first tries.

Anyone interested in trying out the sport is welcome to attend a training session on Thursdays at 7 pm. The club are also looking for women who wish to start up a contact team.

Greyhound have been awarded £1500 from the Natwest Rugby Force grant to have a weekend of upgrading the kitchen , painting, cleaning up and repairs at Hereford City Sports Club on June 21 and 22.

"This is the second year that have been awarded £500 as part of 175 clubs nationwide," said chairman Barry Morris.

"Last year we even had our club name on the steps at Twickenham during the 6 nations, this year we have been lucky enough to be one of 175 clubs to receive the further £1000.

"For a grass roots rugby club such as ours we need all the volunteer and financial help we can get. The money will be spent improving our club house and facilities as well as things such as a pop up shelter for Minis parents and events.

"We are a small rugby club with a big rugby heart, and we like to invest in our loyal players, members, parents, coaches etc. as well as the community."
