Bromyard 13 pts Tenbury 21

NEAR neighbours Tenbury gained revenge for an early season Midlands Four West (North) defeat by turning the tables at Bromyard’s Instone ground.

Bromyard had taken the lead with a well-worked try when a quick tap-penalty by Bobby Ralph led to Andy Ford feeding Greg Leighton who powered over in the corner.

Tenbury hit back to gain the lead when Will Gough landed two back-to-back penalties but it was the home side who held a narrow advantage at the interval after Ralph converted a long-range penalty attempt.

When Greg Leighton extended the lead after the young Bromyard backs showed very quick hands, the hosts seemed to be in control.

However, the experienced Tenbury pack, led by Will Morgan, in his final competitive match, began to establish dominance up front and when Scott Holloway was yellow carded for persistent offside the visitors made good use of the advantage.

The resulting penalty was followed by two quick tries, one from Callum Spires and the other from Sam Thomas, a product of Bromyard Junior Rugby.

In the clash of the second-teams, an early season result was also overturned with Bromyard securing a 22-7 win.

Bromyard made the breakthrough with a Josh Ridley try in the second quarter but Tenbury quickly responded with a converted try of their own.

In the second half, man-of-the-match Dan Masters inspired the young Bromyard back-line and the Herefordshire side forged ahead with tries from wingers Craig Griffiths and Stuart Harrison.

Steve Prosser's try put the result beyond doubt in the closing stages.
