Experienced Hallam targets cup success

THE experienced Kieram Hallam believes a cup victory this weekend would be an ideal tonic for Ledbury Rugby Club.

Ledbury are travelling to higher-graded Stourbridge Lions this Saturday in the semi-finals of the North Midlands Shield.

“We are really looking forward to it,” said Hallam, who returned to action last weekend after two months out.

“We wanted a cup run this season and we want to go all the way and get to the final. We might have a few players back and Ben Smith could even get on to the pitch.”

Stourbridge Lions play one tier above Ledbury in Midlands Two West (South) and are eighth, having won seven and lost two of their nine league matches at home this term.

The winners will face either Bridgnorth or Moseley Oak who meet in the other semi-final.

Hallam, a former Hereford player, said: “Stourbridge Lions are higher-graded opposition but there’s no reason why we can’t progress.

“We beat Kidderminster Carolians in the quarter-finals and Aston Old Edwardians so we have got a chance.

“Last season, we were battling relegation and we went out of the cup in the opening round, so this term has seen a massive improvement. We still have belief that we can win some silverware or get promoted.”
