TOM Jones produced an excellent kicking display as Luctonians edged out a tight affair in the rearranged National Two North match against a strong Caldy side.

The weather conditions were a lot better than the previous contest yet still interesting as the wind produced a stern test for both teams and a number of handling mistakes were made on both sides as they looked to assert themselves into the game.

With the score 6-3, two Jones penalties for the home team, and time running out in the first half, sustained pressure by the Lucs forwards finally told as they drove a tiring Caldy defence on to their own try line before a superb floated pass by Tom Jones found Drew Cheshire who made no mistake in the corner.

Jones added the conversion for a 13-3 half time lead.

The Caldy response in the second half was instantaneous as, within just a minute of the restart, Craig Ross had crossed the try line to bring his side right back into it. However, the Lucs reply was impressive as it took just six minutes for Chris Condliffe to drive over after a well-worked line out.

Things then began to look even better for Lucs as Caldy had two players sin-binned but, despite the two man disadvantage, it was the visitors who scored next, Sean Macklin going over in the corner to move his side within three points.

Lucs restored their advantage just as Caldy got back up to a full complement again as Geraint Langdon crossed the line following a great offload by Jones, who then struck the post with his conversion attempt.

Caldy crossed again, Andrew Soutar, to make it a nervous last few minutes but the Lucs' nerve held as they hung on for well-deserved victory.
