LUCTONIANS' director of rugby Alex Davidson is being made to wait to find out whether his rugby career is over or not following a lengthy shoulder injury.

“Unfortunately, things have moved on in the medical world, whereas a few years ago you could probably twist somebody’s arm to get an early indication, I’ve been told to wait for a formal letter or a phone call, so hopefully that will be this week and I can take it from there.”

As well as Davidson’s long-term problem, Luctonians have suffered an injury-hit season, with as many as 13 members of the squad out at the start of the campaign.

However, the start of the new year has seen many of the injured players return and seen an upturn in form over recent games.

This improved form will be needed as they go into Saturday’s game away to Preston Grasshoppers, a team which Davidson believes has proved difficult to beat in the past.

“We’ve always struggled going to Preston, it’s a bit of a daunting place to go to," said the former Birmingham & Solihull lock.

"For some reason we seem to have a monkey on our back with it, so it would be great to continue this positive trend we’re on and go up there and really give them again.

"I think it’s a winnable one, they aren’t the force they used to be.

"It’s an added incentive to go there and shake this monkey from our backs and get another tick in the win column to keep the momentum going for the rest of the season."
