Hereford maintain unbeaten start with Midlands One West win at Midlands One West
1:30pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in Rugby
Stratford-upon-Avon 8 pts Hereford 35 pts THE Wyesiders produced another excellent display to maintain their unbeaten opening to the Midlands One West season, scoring five tries to their opponents’ one.
Hereford opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Gary Preece landed a penalty forced by Lloyd Collier, who ran in the Wyesiders’ first try after Stratford had briefly gone in front from an unconverted try of their own.
Ben Osborne converted Collier’s try but Collier took over kicking duties to add a penalty before making the break which put in Jamie Bullock for his third try of the season.
Collier added the conversion to take the score to 20-5 at half-time.
Stratford staged a revival at the start of the second period and cut arrears with a penalty.
But the Hereford pack were quickly back in control, releasing Nat Thomas for an unconverted try.
A series of forward drives saw Jamie Humphrey driven over for the bonus-point try before Josh Bell rounded off the scoring wide out on the left.
“The forwards controlled the line-outs and won more than their share of the scrums,” said Hereford spokesman Robin Davies.
“An excellent back row of Harry Jenkins, skipper Ali McColl and Matt Pritchard, making a welcome return after a long period of injury, dominated the loose play.
“The backs played with a freedom that entertained the crowd and made few mistakes and the whole team clearly enjoyed their afternoon.”
