Two late strikes help to end season on a high

12:11pm Friday 2nd May 2008

Wantage Town 2 Pegasus Juniors 3 PEGASUS rounded off their Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division campaign by completing a double over the Oxfordshire side.

The Hereford club scored twice in the dying minutes to end their frustrating league season on a high note.

Wantage broke the deadlock in the 12th minute after Ellis Langford chested down the ball to Liam McCulloch who scored with a low drive.

The home team continued to dominate and the visiting defence did well to protect makeshift goalkeeper Richard Harrison.

Pegasus almost drew level five minutes after the interval when Cory Hyde’s shot beat the home goalkeeper but was cleared off the line.

The Hereford club continued to create chances and deservedly levelled through Hyde.

Chris Mortlock was denied by the home goalkeeper and he then skimmed the outside of a post as Pegasus took control.

But Wantage regained the lead against the run of play with three minutes left through Tom Austin’s lob.

Pegasus equalised straight from the kick-off when Hyde hit his second goal after a neat pass from Simon Gwynne.

And Pegasus snatched the win when Rob Laurie and Hyde combined for Ben Price to score with a close-range shot.
