PEGASUS Juniors hope to have the twin spearhead of Cory Hyde and Sam Pearson leading their push for West Midlands (Regional League) Premier Division honours this season.

Hyde, who netted 48 goals two seasons ago as Peggy finished runners-up in the league - one point behind champions Lye Town - is being eased back in action after a cruciate ligament injury and with Pearson returning after a pre-season dalliance with Hereford FC, hopes are high at Old School Lane.

James Edmonds and Kevin Bethell are the new managerial team, replacing Chris Hyde, who stood down at the end of last season.

Edmonds and Bethell?ran the Peggy youth team who had a memorable run in the FA?Youth Cup two seasons ago before losing at Boston United.

Bethell said: “Cory has had a couple of run-outs in pre-season and we are really looking forward to seeing him and Sam playing together.

“We have signed Liam Taylor (from Ludlow), Keanu Barnett (ex-Kington and Westfields) and Callum Craddock (released by Hereford) and also have players like Ashley Lear?and Kyle Panniers, an exceptional 16-year-old, pushing for places. I think we have a decent squad.”

Pegasus kick off at home to Wellington Amateurs on Saturday and then travel to Black Country Rangers on Tuesday.

Wellington also have players coming back from injury as they bid to improve on last season’s 11th-placed finish.

They also reached both the HFA?Challenge Cup and Premier Division Cup finals and boss Derek Williams, whose side romped to a 10-0 win at Kington Town last Sunday, is confident they are going in the right direction.

He said: “We have Saul Thomas (after cruciate ligament surgery), Aaron Morgan and my lad Matt all coming back and we have signed Adam Newbury after he had a couple of pre-season games with Hereford.

“There is competition for places and I believe we are making progress. Josh Hunt (who bagged a hat-trick against Kington) and Ben Thomas were exceptional last season and Sam Archer really came on.”

Wellington start at Wolverhampton Sporting Community before hosting Wellington Amateurs next Tuesday night.
