Skipper Paul Allam acknowledged that Pegasus had taken their foot off the pedal a bit on their way to victory.

"We made rather hard work of it," he admitted. "But we knew we had the beating of them and we stuck together.

"We knew that if we played our game then we would win it.

"When we went three up in 20 minutes, it gave us a bit of a false sense of security because we rested on our laurels a bit, relaxed and lost a bit of concentration.

We conceded two bad goals from our point of view but we got back together and knew we had the players to win the game."

He also acknowledged that there had been a number of changes from last season but that the new players were gelling well.

"We have a good mix here with senior players like me and Danny Hill and one or two others mixed in with the youth like Kiea Cowley, who got a hat-trick today," he said.

"We've got a good blend, with everyone complementing everyone else."

It was point which the experienced Hill, a relatively recent arrival at Old School Lane, was happy to agree with.

"I've been here for seven games now and I am really enjoying it, he said. "We have a good blend here and we play good football."

Both Allam and Hill are looking forward to resuming their FA Vase campaign on Saturday when Midland League Division Two side Aston visit Old School Lane.

"We would like a little bit of a run in the Vase, it's a nice distraction from the league and a bit of money for the club," said Allam.

"It's always nice to be in a cup and to go as far as you can."

Hill added: "It's good to get a home draw and if we win and keep on getting drawn at home then who knows how far we could go."

Manager Chris Hyde was not getting carried away.

"It's a tricky little game," he said. "We haven't got the finances to have them watched but we will not approach it differently from any other game."
