Pegasus go on goal spree and hit a dozen past Shifnal in West Midlands Premier

Pegasus Juniors 12 Shifnal 0.

CHRIS Mortlock, Cory Hyde and Keith Jones all grabbed hat-tricks as Pegasus recorded their biggest ever win.

Mortlock got his three goals in the first-half as Adie Morgan’s side rattled in an astonishing six goals against a Shifnal team who only a couple of weeks ago drew 3-3 against West Midlands Premier Division leaders Black Country Rangers.

Hyde and Jones also got on the scoresheet in the first period as Shifnal had no answer to Pegasus’ attacking threat.

And it was more of the same in the second-half as Hyde and Jones completed their hat-tricks, with Zak Brimble, Ross Powell and Sam Hunt also chipping in with goals.

“It was completely the opposite to the last game when the players were not at their best and were flat,” said Pegasus assistant-manager Marc Jarvis, referring to Pegasus’ defeat to Southam United in the FA Vase. “But on Saturday, everyone was on their game and four of the goals were outstanding.

“It was also a record defeat for Shifnal - it really was a professional performance by us.

“Football can be funny sometimes, it was just bizarre considering our performance last week.”

Pegasus will now be hoping that their goals have not dried up when they face local rivals Wellington at Old School Lane this Saturday - a game that former Wellington man Jarvis is looking forward to.

“I was at Wellington for four years from 2002 to 2006 as assistant-manager and manager and I also played for them in the mid 1990s,” said Jarvis. “I have got a lot of time for them and there are a lot of good people there, but I want to beat them on Saturday and beat them well.

“Last season, we were 1-0 up against them with eight minutes to go, but they ended up beating us 3-1, so we will be going for revenge.”
