Treble for Kimbolton trainer Sarah-Jayne Davies at Kimbolton

THE yard of trainer Sarah-Jayne Davies has been under a cloud for the past few weeks but struck form again with a vengeance at the United Pack point-to-point meeting at Brampton Bryan with a treble.

Highlight was the win of Upton Springs in the Ladies’ Open race which saw her overturn the odds-on favourite Chestnut Annie in a pillar-to-post victory.

Partnered by Davies, Upton Springs was always at the head of affairs and despite being briefly threatened by the favourite in the back straight, the partnership galloped on resolutely to score by two-and-a-half lengths.

Owner Peter Corbett confessed afterwards: “I didn’t expect to beat that one, the yard has had a few problems but I’m absolutely delighted.”

The yard’s return to form was emphasised again with the wins of Grimley Girl and Miss Harriet in both divisions of the young horse Maiden, both partnered by stable jockey Jeremy Mahot.

Grimley Girl, making a reappearance after her debut second at Whitwick, was a particularly impressive 25-length winner and the daughter of multiple race-mare Grimley Gale belies her small stature with an impressive engine.

Jockey Will Telfar was also in double form at the meeting with wins in the first two races aboard Never So Blue and The Magherally Man.
