Duo’s 50 years of loyal service

THE South Herefordshire Hunt point-to-point at Garnons this Saturday marks a special occasion for two members of the number board team, John Edwards and Eric Roper.

The pair have been efficiently slotting the riders names into the frame for half a century at point-to-points, currently ably assisted by John’s son James, Frank Davies and Ken Watkins.

“Point-to-point racing could not survive without such enthusiasts behind the scenes,” said secretary, Liz Morgans. “We all love the sport, but John, a farmer from How Caple, has headed the number board team cheerfully for 50 years, whatever the weather – incredible dedication!”

The Garnons fixture on Saturday has attracted 154 entries, which will make a seven-race card beginning at 1.30pm.

Clerk of the course, Stan Turner has worked tirelessly to provide the best possible racing ground, and the official going is currently ‘good’.

With some rain forecast at the end of the week, conditions will hopefully be ideal for competitive racing.
