Morgan and Waldron are Herefordshire Athletic Association's County Cross-Country champions

AFTER bad weather prevented their usual January time slot, Herefordshire Athletic Association's County Cross-Country Championships have finally been completed.

The under-9, -10 and -11 boys and girls were introduced to cross-country over a 1,000m course.

The largest entry was in the under-11 boys where George Hudson of Sutton PS and Hereford & County AC had a confident win from Harry Hutton of Hereford & County AC and T King of St Paul’s PS.

In the girls' and women’s age-groups, there were outstanding performances from Olivia Hale of Fairfield HS in the under-13 girls and Clara Evans of Hereford & County AC in the under-17 girls.

In the under-15 girls, E Gilbert of Wigmore HS was a newcomer to the event and an easy winner.

The senior women’s race saw Sarah Waldron competing in the county championships for the first time and completing an easy win from Amy Carwardine of Hereford Couriers.

The veteran women was won by Susan Marr of Wye Valley from Alison Cooke and Clare Scott of Hereford Couriers who, with Nikki Edwards, won the team race.

Hereford Cathedral School provided the champions for under-13 boys, William Ford, and under-15 boys, C Porter.

Jon Barnes continued his winning ways in the junior men’s race with a minute lead over George Miles of the Hereford Triathlon Club and Eliot Taylor of Hereford Couriers.

The senior men’s race was closely fought with Stacey Morgan of Croft Ambrey securing first place from Luke Moseley of Hereford Triathlon Club.

In the veteran men's race, another close finish saw Tim Clarke (Couriers) return to the scene with a 25-second advantage over John Pullen of Wye Valley.
